Football team generator

No more captains picking and the same two people left until last. Paste the names, get random football teams, and kick off.

Picking teams for 5-a-side, 7-a-side or 11-a-side

Set the generator to two teams for a single game, or to three or four teams if you play winner-stays-on. With 12 for a five-a-side pitch you get two teams of six, which means one rolling sub each. With 15 you can run three teams of five and rotate who sits out.

Stop one-sided games

Random teams are fair on paper but a pure draw can still put all the fast players together. In the Rotasquad app you can give players an optional rating from 1 to 5. It then builds teams with matching strength and keeps them close as people arrive late or leave early.

Rotate subs and track results

For weekly kickabouts Rotasquad remembers the whole crew. It rotates whoever is on the bench so nobody sits out twice in a row, records scores and draws, and builds a leaderboard over the season: top winners, the best partnership on the pitch, and who is on a hot streak.

Frequently asked questions

How do I pick fair football teams?

Use the generator above for a quick random split. For teams balanced by ability, open Rotasquad, give players a rating from 1 to 5 and it builds evenly matched sides.

How many players do I need for 5-a-side?

Ten players for a full game, five on each side. With 11 to 14 players, Rotasquad rotates the extra players in as subs so everyone gets the same game time.

Can I run winner stays on with three teams?

Yes. Use Winner priority in the app: winners get first call on the next game, and anyone who has been waiting is guaranteed to come on.

Does it record draws?

Yes. Football allows draws in Rotasquad, and they count in every player’s record.

Is it free?

Yes. No account, no ads, and your squad list stays on your phone.
